BUDAPEST, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) — Last year, Hungary entered the world’s top 20 largest pharmaceutical industry exporters in 19th place, according to official sources here.
“Last year, 84 percent of the pharmaceuticals produced here were marketed abroad,” Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, declared in a statement published on the official website of the Hungarian government.
Calling the pharmaceutical industry one of the determining sectors of the 21st century, Szijjarto said “The success of the pharmaceuticals industry is one of the guarantors of the transformation of the Hungarian economy from a production-orientated economy into an economy driven by research and development.”
According to Szijjarto, the production value of the Hungarian pharmaceuticals industry was 880 billion forints (3.1 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017.
And the industry has a bright future, according to the minister, who said that the fact that over 2,500 students were studying pharmaceutical courses in Hungarian superior education institutions was a clear indication.
