Moderna has renamed its coronavirus vaccine

The American company Moderna has changed the name of its coronavirus vaccine, it follows from the data of the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Previously, the name of the drug coincided with the name of the company, but now the vaccine will be called Spikevax. Moderna does not report the reasons for the name change.

In early May, the World Vaccine Congress recognized Moderna as the best vaccine against COVID-19. The shortlist then included the Russian Sputnik V, as well as AstraZeneca, Bharat Biotech, Janssen, Medicago, Novavax, Pfizer / BioNtech and the animal vaccine Zoetis.

The EMA confirmed the safety of the Moderna vaccine in early March. At the end of April, the World Health Organization added this drug to the list of recommended vaccines for emergency use.
