APRIL IS SARCOIDOSIS AWARENESS MONTH

Sarcoidosis is a rare, auto-immune disease that can cause inflammation and scarring of body tissue. It is a granulomatous disease of unknown cause, occurs worldwide and has a highly variable prevalence. Sarcoidosis can affect many parts of the body and it is most dominant in the lungs. Sarcoidosis can be difficult to diagnose because of few symptoms in its early stages. Symptoms of sarcoidosis include fatigue, fever, nausea and weight loss. Unfortunately, it is a long-term illness that requires a permanent checkup. Mortality from sarcoidosis has increased in the past three decades, with respiratory failure being the most common cause of sarcoidosis-related death.

Sometimes sarcoidosis goes away on its own and there is no effective cure for it now. However, if the symptoms are severe or organ function is threatened, you can be treated with medications. They may be corticosteroids, despite the toxic effect, medications that suppress the immune system, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) inhibitors. It is a great lack of effective therapies now. It makes sarcoidosis a difficult disease to treat.

ChemDiv can offer the following screening libraries. They contain small molecules that potentially can be used in sarcoidosis treatment.
